NCE UPON A TIME, on the Island of Meddybemps, all of the people wore their hair in elaborate fashions that were truly amazing to see. Photographs taken in those days show tall, poofy styles and short spikey styles. There were nine-foot braids and teensy curls and... Well, as you can see in these pictures, despite all their efforts to look wonderful, everyone was grumpy.
They were grumpy because they didn't sleep well. To keep their hair looking good, they made themselves lie very still when they slept, and that was hard to do. So every morning they woke up tired and they looked, and were, grumpy.
